I made a pot of these beans for a family reunion recently and I'm still getting comments about how amazing they were. Cooking, for me, has never been about making the item to perfection, but doing something that's not commonly done to the meal. This recipe is no different, and I'm going to share my secret with you. Are you ready for the best pork & beans you've ever had?
1 can Busch's Baked Beans Homestyle (28 oz.)
1 lb. bacon (Diced)
2 tsp Chili powder
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 cup Oh-Tex Original
1 handful pulled pork (optional)
Begin by slicing your raw bacon by cutting into 1/2 pieces. Throw pieces of bacon into preheated sauce pot. cook to your desired texture (I prefer mine crispy). DO NOT DRAIN.
After your bacon is finished is when you would add any other proteins you'd like, (I normally make this to accompany my pulled pork, so I grab a handful of pork and throw it in the pot.) You can use whatever you like, set an Oh-Tex burger aside (cooked of course) and dice that up, or maybe an Oh-Tex style hot dog. Your choice, but also completely optional, the beans are perfectly fine without the added protein. If you decide to add something, allow it to cook alongside the bacon and in the bacon grease for 3-5 minutes.
This is when you add your can of baked beans. Stir in the beans to incorporate into the proteins already in the pot. Add in the Oh-Tex Original and stir into beans.
Add in your pre-measured dry seasonings and stir in. Allow beans to cook through.
Serve alongside your main course of choice and enjoy!
